These hand decorated Chaucer figures from THE CANTERBURY TALES have been closely modelled from contemporary material by Tony Bennett who trained at the Royal College of Art. The figures have many of the qualities of medieval manuscripts and Chaucer himself has been modelled from an early portrait belonging to the Sackville family at Knowle, Sevenoaks, Kent. The majolica glaze and hand decoration are all within a tight range of colours and can be easily equated with the characters portrayed - both the modelling and making have the authentic air of the Middle Ages, but the people are still as easily recognished today as when Chaucer first wrote The Canterbury Tales 600 years ago.
